Using The Amex Platinum For Airline Tickets?

Whether we travel for work or for pleasure, there is something in all of us that pushes us to want to step outside of our homes and keep going.

Unless you plan to drive all the way across an ocean or two, airline travel deals is the most efficient way to get overseas (besides stowing away on a freighter, of course). Buying airline tickets is never an inexpensive experience, but it certainly is a major opportunity to rack in some serious rewards points when we make those purchases with our rewards credit cards.

But there are countless rewards credit cards out there, each from different credit companies and offering different rewards programs for purchases on travel, food, and everything in between. Luckily, we’ve done our homework and have narrowed in on one of the travel credit cards to buy airline tickets with. Our research shows that the leading credit card to purchase airline ticket purchases is none other than the American Express Platinum Card.

Why Should I Use The Amex Platinum Card to Buy Airline Tickets?

The biggest selling point that made this sleek card catch our eye was its response to airline ticket purchases. If you buy airline tickets using your Amex Platinum card, then you earn, and get this –5X’s the rewards points per $1. While other cards offer at best 3X’s or 4X’s the rewards points, which is a multiplier that is nothing to shake your tail at, 5X’s the rewards is something that is pretty hard to ignore.

You must buy your airline ticket directly from the airline to receive the 5x benefit, or through Amex Travel.

But the 5X’s rewards points multiplier doesn’t stop there at the airline ticket purchase –it extends hotel bookings. If you are planning a trip anytime soon, be sure to take advantage of all of these rewards opportunities by booking through Amex Travel’s online booking system.

Is There More?

The American Express Platinum also comes with several privileges for its card holders that push it further ahead of the other leading travel cards.

One of the many perks that come along with the card is that it comes with middle-tier Elite status membership at many of American Express’ partnered hotel chains. Signing up for the Platinum card comes with heightened status at Marriott and Hilton, and also grants you preferred status at premier vehicle rental services. Not too shabby by any means.

If you enroll and pay for TSA PreCheck you will get your payment credited. TSA PreCheck, a service that is a serious life saver for those of us who find ourselves running through airports all too often. A program that you sign up for once and stay signed up for 5 years, this permanently shortened airport security line shaves off precious minutes from your airport check-in time.

The American Express is a great card for taking care of travel purchases and travel related issues with its $200 bonus of Uber credit that can be used toward any Uber ride that you take when you hook up your Amex card to the Uber app. You will be able to use $15 in Uber credit each month and $35 in credits in December. If you aren’t planning on renting a car, then you can at least ride worry-free and in style, as well as have a local come straight to you to answer that age-old question of “what’s the best place to eat around here?”
